Pastoral Transition Update
Hello BurbankPres,
As we shared this past Sunday in worship, we would like to invite all of you to join us next Sunday, January 29th for our Sunday worship service. Pastor Ross will preach his last sermon in the pulpit after 22 years of faithful ministry as our pastor. At the conclusion of the worship service, we will have the opportunity to pray for both Ross and Kathy, to bless them, and to ask the Lord to send them off with our blessings, as Ross begins his new pastorate sometime in February.
Immediately following the service we will have our Annual Congregational Meeting. This meeting is to conduct some yearly business that we need to take care of as a church. All members are encouraged to attend.
Following the meeting, we will have our farewell reception for Pastor Ross and Kathy in the fellowship hall. This will be an opportunity to express our gratefulness to God for their faithful love and service to our church. It would be appropiate to bring thank you cards or gifts as way to show our gratitude.
As I shared in worship this past Sunday, our church leadership has already begun discussions of how we move forward as a church. Our presbytery will begin working with our elders at our next monthly Session meeting in February. We have some wonderful elders and deacons who will share in the work of helping make sure that everything we do in moving forward will always be about Jesus.
One of my favorite passages of scriptures in times like these is from the apostle Paul, who writes in Hebrews 10:24-25, "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." What an excellent reminder in remaining faithful to what it means to be the church as we move forward.
Again, if you're able, come join us this Sunday. We want to help Pastor Ross and Kathy finish well. It's the first of many steps in moving forward.
Don't forget. As I mentioned in my sermon on Sunday. Jesus is still Lord. He's the head of the church. And the body still works.
Be blessed friends.
