Church Update June 3, 2020

Church Update June 3rd, 2020
There was a day not too long ago when most of us relied on our landline telephones in our homes as the primary way of communicating with one another and for accomplishing our daily tasks. Do you remember the home phone number you and your family had when you were a kid? Do you know your current home phone number by memory even now? When was the last time you used those prehistoric books called the yellow and white pages, the phone company would give each household to be able to refer to when you needed a telephone number?  With the advent of those little tiny gadgets called cell phones, some of us can't even remember our children's cell phone numbers and instead we lean on our friend "Hey Siri," to help dial a phone number.

As many of us are sitting at home right now watching the unrest all over our country on television or the internet, around the death of George Floyd, still abiding by safer at home orders due to Covid-19 and now being asked to abide by a local and county wide curfew, there is no doubt many of us are asking why is this happening and where is God in all of this? All of us are calling upon the Spirit of God to come and make things right at this moment. Whatever your feelings are about what is happening in the world, as Christ followers, we believe that we can call upon the Holy Spirit of Pentecost, to blow through our land, with the mighty winds of peace, that bring about healing and reconciliation that is so badly needed right now in our world.

If you're a believer, you know without a doubt that, that the same Spirit that comes to us at Pentecost is the same Spirit that resides within all of us and helps us to remember that God is with us and is who helps us to understand our role in the world right now, even if we don't have answers. Jesus says in John 14:26, "But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."  The only way we're going to truly know the answers that we're all trying to find right now, is to stop, learn, and listen to what is already in our hearts when it comes to being people who love one another and love God. Let the God who sends us the gift of the Spirit at Pentecost also be the same one who tells us to be still and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10).

Here's the latest:

Strategic Regathering Team We have put together an initial "strategic regathering team," that has started meeting on a regular basis. We're currently praying and talking about what needs to be done to prepare and get ready for public worship, based on local and state guidelines for faith communities to safely gather in the midst of Covid-19. We will continue to keep you all informed for when we will meet. As of right now, we will not be publicly meeting for Sunday worship for the entire month of June. Please know that our church leaders are in conversations about when we will regather again as a faith community. Our prayer is that we will be fully prepared and ready to be able to have public worship as soon as it is safe to do so. If you have questions please email the church office at [email protected] You can visit our video updates in the app, on social media, or on our website at
