Church Update May 23rd, 2020
Dear BurbankPres Friends,

There is one word that many of us are most likely relearning in the midst of quarantined life and that word is rest. After several weeks of being home, abiding by the safer-at-home orders, and the adjustments all of us have had to make in a Covid-19 world, how are you practicing the art of simply resting? Are you taking more naps? Are you going to bed earlier? Are you carving out moments in your day to simply stop, rest, and reset?

The word rest basically means to press the pause button. It means to cease from whatever it is that you're doing. We hear about the rest Jesus promises, found in Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  Jesus' call to find rest in him wasn't to add another burden to our lives, with the hopes of finding rest, but instead it was a call to lean into him and to trust that in the midst of whatever's happening in our lives, that Christ will be present in the joys and struggles. The call to find rest in Jesus, is the call to cast our burdens on the one who promises that he will sustain us and carry those burdens. (Psalm 55:22) The promise of rest isn't that life would be perfect, the promise is that because of the way we follow Jesus, we'd be able to manage through whatever it is that we're encountering in our lives. How are you using that pause button in your life right now when it comes to finding rest in Jesus?

Faithful Giving –  Don't forget you can mail in your giving to the church office (521 E. Olive Ave., Burbank 91501) or you can also give through our website at burbankpres.org/give, or through our church app, which you can find in any of the app stores. You can also simply text the phrase BurbankPres to 1-888-364-4483 (GIVE). Our mission still remains the same as a faith community. We believe Jesus has called us to be faithful to Christ and his mission. Whether it's online or together in person, we will be faithful to that mission.

Please know that our church leaders are in conversations about when we will regather as a faith community. Please be in prayer as we also wait for guidelines from our local and state leaders. Our prayer is that we will be fully prepared and ready to be able to have public worship as soon as it is safe to do so. If you have questions please email the church office at [email protected]

If you need prayer, please don't hesitate to email the church at [email protected] or send your prayer requests through the church app. Pastor Ross, K.C, and our staff are praying for all of you and that you're experiencing the one who promises rest to all those who trust in him.

Be blessed.
